The Real Art of Being a Woman
Diversity is the dance of life.
We take pride in both the diversity of our dance and our diversity as women from different backgrounds at different stages of our lives. True beauty comes in many different packages and steps to many different songs.
Raq-a-Belly dance! has been performing at Edmonton city festivals, charity fundraisers, corporate functions, weddings, and family events. We’re good for you!
Mission statement:
"To celebrate the mind, body, and spirit of being a woman through the interpretative art of bellydancing.”

Vision statement :
Raq-a-Belly dance! illustrates the depth and exoticism of bellydancing while promoting a healthy
and positive attitude about a woman’s body.
Raq-a-Belly dance!, a not-for-profit society, was formed in 2006 from a previous troupe, the Jewels of Isis, with Isis Productions, Edmonton. We are a group of women of all ages, sizes and ethnic backgrounds and we take pride in this diversity.
Raq-a-Belly dance! is a name that represents connections to four ideas that are important to us:
- “raq” (pronounced “rock”) represents our connection to the Middle East/North Africa as “raqs’, the Arabic word for dance.
- A kicky connection with our Canadian home of Edmonton, Alberta
- Respect for the global cultures we honour through our interpretations of the dances
- Fun through our enthusiastic commitment to the pure enjoyment of dance.
